Mission & Interests
Goals: The Young European Federalists (JEF Europe) is a political youth NGO advocating for the creation of a democratic European federation as a guarantee for peace, the rule of law and human rights. JEF Europe promotes true European citizenship, works for the widening and deepening of the European Union and strives for a more just and integrated society on the European continent and beyond. Established in 1972, the organisation has more than 10,000 activists organised in over 250 national, regional and local sections in 37 countries. The ideals and aims of JEF Europe are defined in the Manifesto of Ventotene, the Political Platform and resolutions adopted by its statutory bodies.

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: JEF follows all issues concerning the evolution of democratic citizenship, more cohesion on a regional and European level, social issues and most importantly, Youth inclusion and participation in a direct dialogue with policy- and decision-makers.
We strongly believe in a sustainable future and we think the EU needs to have a major role in building it. This is why the main policies followed by our organisation are the ones connected to free movement, democracy, youth mobility, environmental and social justice. The role of Europe in the world is very relevant as well to ensure human rights and to promote peace. We believe that the way to achieve the goals above mentioned, is through the formation of a European democratic Federation.
Our political proposals are drafted through a bottom up approach by three political committees, focused on institutions and governance, internal european affairs, and external affairs and global governance. The resolutions defined by these participatory bodies are then used by the Executive Board to build up legislative proposals and advocacy actions towards the EU Institutions.
Communication Activities: We have been very active in promoting the Conference on the Future, publishing 13 proposals for the future of Europe. We have been invited to be part of the CoFoE Plenary among the Civils Society representatives and we have been among the ones animating the Civil Society Convention. We then organised events and initiatives, like the Strasbourg Summit, to support the final result of the CoFoE, and in particular the files connected to the Electoral Law and the reform of the European Treaties. Since then we worked on the followup of the Conference with Treaty Change.
We also organised a massive European election campaign, EurHope, a participatory campaign ahead of the 2024 European Elections, supported by a coalition of more than 40 actors. In its first phase, the campaign gathered 1.5 million votes from across the European Union and more than 5,000 proposals were submitted to the multilingual online Make.org platform (eurhope.org) available in all member states. The proposals emerging from this first phase have shaped the drafting of an Agenda of Hope, set to be shared with European institutions and political actors. The Agenda of Hope aims to put young citizens’ priorities in the centre of the public debate ahead of the European elections.
One of the most important campaigns for JEF is Democracy under Pressure. launched the campaign in 2006 under the name of “Free Belarus Action '' to raise awareness against the Lukashenka regime, considered as the last dictatorship in Europe. Since then, JEF Europe has been lifting the voices and the stories of activists and citizens demanding to live in a democratic country. Unfortunately, recent times have shown that threats to democracy and the rule of law concern several countries on the European continent. Hence, JEF actions have been rebranded under the name “Democracy Under Pressure” in 2014 and aim at drawing attention to the systematic weakening of democratic values on which the European Union is founded.
Most recently we organised a Campaign to support Ukraine as well. Focusing our political requests on the accession process for Ukraine and on the structural support for Ukrainian young people. With EU-kraine we organised solidarity initiatives towards Ukrainian people as well and cooperated with other Youth NGOs to support them.
The protection of human and civil rights is also the main subject of the Campaign “Be a Federalist Ally”, which aims at giving concrete tools for how JEFers and Europeans can be more inclusive in JEF activities and their daily lives.
