Mission & Interests
Goals: Founded in 2002, YES Forum is a European network of organisations working with and for young people with fewer opportunities. By promoting their social inclusion and developing their professional skills, we act to improve their life chances. We also bring young people and professionals who work directly in the field, into dialogue with policymakers and EU institutions, being thus a European forum for sharing good practices, and for giving voice to young people’s ideas.
To meet these goals, the YES Forum: • organises quality learning mobility opportunities for professionals and young people. • promotes innovative approaches in youth and social work in trainings, seminars and conferences for professionals working with vulnerable young people, and provides room for peer learning and exchange of inspiring practices.• contributes to policy on youth and social affairs by transferring experience from concrete practice and young people’s input.

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: By providing formal and non-formal learning, the YES Forum promotes social inclusion and active participation of young people with vulnerable background in society, thus contributing to the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan through education and training, youth employment, youth participation and social inclusion. Especially the YES Forum focuses on four principles under the Chapter I: “Equal opportunities and access to the labour market”: education, training and life-long learning; gender equality; equal opportunities and active support to employment.
In order to respond to the challenges and opportunities faced by young people, the YES Forum creates room for peer learning and exchange of inspiring practises, the sustainable development of labour market competences and transversal skills like working together, critical thinking, and creating problem solving, as recommended by the European Skills Agenda for sustainable competitiveness, social fairness and resilience.
The YES Forum used its member’s expertise to participate in the policy making process. For instance, the network participated on the Evaluation of the Council Recommendation on a Quality Framework for Traineeships (QFT) providing inputs based on the network’s international and multidisciplinary approach.
The YES Forum with its members works diligently to support the EU youth policy cooperation, and in particular the successful implementation of the EU Youth Strategy (Council Resolution of 26 November 2018) with its 11 Youth Goals.
Our network partners who work with young people daily have witnessed that active citizenship has become yet another area of exclusion, especially for young people coming from disadvantageous backgrounds, who struggle to participate in society. Undoubtedly, the EU Youth Strategy addresses this crucial topic thoroughly promoting the substantial goals of engaging, connecting and empowering, young people, with a special emphasis on disadvantaged youth (cf. European Commission 2018: EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027).
The YES Forum is holding the Quality Label to coordinate voluntary activities in the frame of the European Solidarity Corps. Several of the YES Forum’s members are also actively involved in creating better opportunities to access employment for young people. The YES Forum members have been supporting the Youth Package (Investing in Europe's Youth, Dec. 2016).

Communication Activities: YES Forum’s main focus lies on policies related to youth participation, education and training, youth employment and social inclusion. The YES Forum supports the EU social policy process by actively working toward the fulfilment of the European Pillar of Social Rights. We are resolute about the best way to reach these objectives: through a strong youth and social work sector across Europe.
1) We promote the participation of young people with fewer opportunities in politics and society:
- Leading projects like the “PhotoVoice - Participation & Empowerment in Youth Work” which aims at promoting the method of Photovoice in youth work, to make it more recognized as a creative tool. By bringing together future and current youth workers, young people and creative organisations, the VOICE project seeks to provide future and current youth workers with innovative tools that they can use to promote social inclusion, engagement and active citizenship of young people. https://bit.ly/3kQFCEW
- With the “READY - Raising EU Awareness through accessible Documents for Youth” we aim to ensure that young people understand the European Union and its core treaties to raise their literacy competencies, so that they can better understand the importance that the EU has over their lives and thus become active citizens. https://bit.ly/3Zq45jB
- The “#rEUconnecting” campaign focused on raising awareness about the relevance of European cooperation to build more inclusive societies. 2) We bring together young people, strengthen European youth work, and connect policy makers, young people and youth workers
- Our latest Policy Event brought together professionals from the youth and social work field, members of the European Commission, representatives of European networks and young people. Participants exchanged and discussed the European Pillar of Social Rights and their implementation, paying careful attention to the voices of young people. https://bit.ly/3F6ir0j
- The network brings together youth and social workers by organising learning mobility opportunities. Both study visits and traineeship opportunities offer professionals the chance to get insights into new approaches to their work. 3) “Empowering young people” is our motto and it guides all our activities:
- Empowering young people for more inclusion in education. We collaborate with German, Dutch and French universities in the “POWERst– emPOWERing first generation STudents” project (2021-2023) to build a more inclusive higher education system in Europe (shorturl.at/brxCK).
- Empowering young people and facilitating their access to the job market. We are part of the “The Employable Youth: It Works!” project (2019-2022), designed with a clear focus on Vocational Training and the need for on-the-job training. This project develops a holistic approach towards the employment and training of socially excluded youth, especially NEETs (shorturl.at/jFKSV).
