Mission & Interests

Goals: The World Crafts Council Europe (WCCE) is a European network representing 37 craft organisations (members) from 22 European countries whose main statutory mission is to promote crafts in Europe, by increasing the awareness and appreciation of crafts as an integral part of the cultural, social, and economic well-being of society. Our vision is a world where craftsmanship and its inherent skills are valued and appreciated at every level of society.  Our purpose is to strengthen the status of and promote crafts as a vital part of cultural, social and economic life through our global network of members and affiliates. Our membership is open to national, regional and professional bodies that have a mandate to advocate for and develop craft.

Main EU Legislative Proposals: Creative Europe programme; New European Bauhaus; Geographical Indicators; European Year of Skills; Green Deal; Europe’s programme for small and medium-sized enterprises; Digital Europe; EU Directive of FCM (Food Container Materials);
Communication Activities: - Developing the WCCE website as a resource about craft across Europe. - Developing a series of webinars on topics related to the New European Bauhaus initiative which are relevant to the crafts sector: sustainability, circular economy, digitalisation, innovation and experimentation etc. - Collecting data and information from our membership around the economical value of crafts and the impact on societies, as well as other relevant topics as geographical indications for craft and industrial products or the EU Directive of FCM (Food Container Materials) to draft policy papers. - Promoting an in-depth knowledge of the specific needs, characteristics, and vulnerabilities of the EU craft sector all along the value chain, through research, mapping with a strong focus on gender equity, diversity, social cohesion; and ongoing and close dialogue with craft stakeholders and other policy sectors (education, youth, science, research and innovation, environment, employment, social affairs, tourism). - Collecting and disseminating sectoral data which will result in surveys to show the critical challenges facing craft in Europe: The European market for crafts; Analysis of the Resilience of the Crafts Sector; Research on business and production opportunities; Analysis of the integration of digital design and fabrication technologies on the crafts sector; European crafts sector and the Creative Europe cross-cutting priorities. - Working with members to develop the ‘Craft Cities’ and ‘European Artistic Craft Days’ initiatives to promote the value of crafts.
