Communication Activities: WIDE+ is a European network of feminist activists, scholars, and women’s rights organisations that reaches out to 300 associations, through its national membership-based networks and organisations across Europe. It aims to promote women’s rights by analyzing the systemic causes of inequality and advocating for transformative change. WIDE+ comes from a longstanding collaboration between feminists in the global South and feminist economists. In the last five years WIDE+ has been able to connect this global expertise with feminist activism in Europe.
WIDE+ and its members have organized almost each year, including years before its official establishment, an international workshop or conference. This has happened up to 2020, with corona leading the network to work online.
Key themes WIDE+ works on in 2021: migrant women in relation to violence for example, tackling digital violence, intersectional perspective on gender mainstreaming, tracking EU funds for migrant women, COVID-19 and care work, feminist movement building, gender just trade policy, Gender Equality in External Relations, and gender gap in digital economy, macro-economic policy for the UNECE region, and gender & tax policy.
WIDE+ engages in advocacy though alliances in order to influence European decision makers in different agenda’s, such as development and trade policy. The past years, WIDE+ has been leading an alliance to promote women's rights in EU trade policy, proving expertise and recommendations. It is also involved in the advocacy around the GAP policy, and of course advocate for its feminist perspectives in gender equality policy, especially in relation to digitalisation and migration.
In addition to advocacy, WIDE+ organizes webinars, online workshops and provides analysis on several issues. It hopes to faciliate a big transnational face to face Feminist Forum when COVID is much more under control (2022 or 2023).
