Mission & Interests
Goals: Since 2003 Wellness Foundation has been committed to promote Wellness for a healthier and more sustainable world. Wellness is the lifestyle that combines regular exercise, a healthy and balanced diet, and a positive mental approach to life. Wellness is key to chronic disease prevention and enhances quality of life. Wellness is a social opportunity for all: for people to stay healthy and live better and longer; for companies and organizations to improve productivity and realize the full potential of their staff; and for Governments to implement cost-effective and sustainable health programmes focused on prevention.
The Wellness Foundation supports scientific research, health education, and the promotion of Wellness in all environments and works with public and private stakeholders to create healthier communities. Since 2003 the Wellness Foundation has promoted the “Wellness Valley” project in the Italian region of Romagna, the first district of Wellness and the good Quality of life.

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: Wellness Foundation is interested in the “HealthyLifestyle4All initiative", in the "Active and Healthy Living in the Digital World", in the "European Reference Networks" and in the "EU4Health 2021-2027" as part of the EU Health Strategy, particularly as regards the prevention of chronic diseases and health promotion, and the creation of environments that support healthy lifestyles.
Communication Activities: Since 2003 Wellness Foundation has promoted and coordinated the "Wellness Valley" project, with the aim of making the Italian region of Romagna the first district for knowledge and culture on wellness and the good quality of life. The Wellness Valley is the first example of a Wellness Ecosystem and a Living Lab on healthy lifestyles. It involves an area in north-east Italy with 1,100,000 residents. More than 300 private and public Stakeholders collaborate with the Wellness Foundation to create new opportunities and the social and cultural conditions for people to adopt a healthy lifestyle at every age and in all environments (at school, at home, in the workplace, in the hospital, on vacation).
Every year the Wellness Foundation publishes the Wellness Valley Report, presenting the outcome of the project and its benefits for health and prevention, sustainable development and the quality of life.
In 2013 Wellness Foundation was invited to present the Wellness Valley project to the EU Platform on Health, Nutrition & Physical Activity.
The Wellness Foundation promotes the importance of active lifestyles for a healthy, inclusive and sustainable society.
Since 2015 the Wellness Foundation has been a partner of the “European Week of Sport” and the #beactive campaign, by organizing and coordinating a large programme of events to promote sport, physical activity and a healthy lifestyle among the population. In September 2023 the Wellness Foundation launched an innovative campaign "Chi si muove, si ama!" to promote physical activity for health among the population aged 40-60. A 6-months campaign realised by the Wellness Foundation in collaboration with the Associations of General Practitioners, and Pharmacists of the provinces of Forlì-Cesena, Ravenna and Rimini, and Agifar, and with the support of AUSL Romagna, the local health authority, and the Emilia-Romagna Region. The aim is to prevent chronic diseases by encouraging sedentary people to become more active.
The Wellness Foundation also promotes the Wellness Congress, a major international event which aims to discuss the impact of wellness and to identify pathways towards a healthier and more sustainable world, through healthy lifestyles. The last edition was held in Cesena, Italy on October 6th, 2023 with world leading experts and scientific panels presenting the cutting-edge research and practical applications in the science of exercise and longevity. A high-profile educational event for general practitioners and healthcare professionals on the value of exercise for healthy longevity.
