Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: As a priority we would be active in lobbying in the context of various legislative policies in place to ensure the safety of food and feed imported from non-EU countries. These policies are designed to protect public health and maintain high standards of food safety within the EU market. Some key legislative measures and procedures include:
General Food Law Regulation (EC) No 178/2002: This regulation establishes the general principles and requirements of food law, including traceability, risk analysis, and the responsibility of food business operators to ensure food safety.
Official Controls Regulation (EC) No 882/2004: This regulation lays down the rules for the official controls on food and feed to ensure compliance with feed and food law, animal health, and animal welfare rules.
Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF): RASFF enables the rapid exchange of information between EU Member States and the European Commission regarding risks to food and feed safety. If a food or feed product from Uzbekistan (or any other non-EU country) is found to pose a risk, it can be rapidly reported and action can be taken.
Import Control System (ICS): The ICS is an electronic system that manages information related to goods imported into the EU. It ensures that imported products comply with EU regulations, including those related to food safety.
EU Regulation on Imports of Organic Products: The EU has specific regulations governing the import of organic products, ensuring that they meet equivalent standards to those produced within the EU.
Bilateral Agreements and Negotiations: The EU may also negotiate bilateral agreements with non-EU countries, to establish specific requirements and procedures for the importation of food and feed products.
Additionally, specific agreements or arrangements may exist between the EU and third counries regarding food safety and trade, which would outline the requirements and procedures for importing food and feed products from these countries into the EU. These agreements may cover aspects such as inspection, certification, and compliance with EU standards.
In light of the fact that these regulations and procedures are subject to change over time as new scientific evidence emerges or as international agreements are updated. Therefore, it's essential for importers and exporters to stay informed about the latest requirements and regulations governing food and feed imports into the EU.
In more general aspects we do engage in articulating various client's interests in implementation of cooperation between the European Union (EU) and the African, Caribbean and Pacific Countries (ACP) and all aspects of the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP)
Moreover, our influencing activities target various EU policies and legislative proposals, aiming to effectively engage with and shape decision-making processes within the European Union. Specifically, we focus on key areas such as environmental sustainability, economic development, social justice, and technological innovation. By strategically referencing titles of EU policies and legislative proposals related to these areas, we ensure our advocacy efforts are well-aligned with the priorities and objectives of the EU institutions. This approach enables us to effectively communicate our positions, contribute to policy debates, and influence outcomes that benefit our stakeholders and advance our goals.
