Main EU Legislative Proposals: The UGS is active on a variety of files, including, among others, free access to markets and trade, maritime piracy and maritime security, EU ETS, MRV, Maritime Safety Package, Green Deal Industrial Plan, ship recycling, air emissions, seafarers’ rights, Free Trade Agreements, taxation, customs, ports policy, safety and environment issues, competition, sanctions, migration, ocean governance and maritime spatial planning and a host of proposals and regulatory initiatives with an impact on the competitiveness and sustainability of the shipping sector.

Complementary Information: With regard to the estimation of the annual costs related to activities covered by the register, the Union of Greek Shipowners spends around 900 thousand to 1 million Euros per year. These expenses include: - the reimbursement of the UGS EU Representative, who is based in Brussels - Brussels office rental costs - membership to the European Community of Shipowners Association (ECSA) - costs related to the flights of UGS employees visiting Brussels - costs related to events (European Shipping Summit 2023) - costs related to remuneration of UGS employees and counsels of the Greek legal entity dealing with EU matters. Please note that in previous years, we operated under the impression that only costs related to the reimbursement of the Brussels-based UGS EU Representative needed to be provided. On 31.12.2022 UGS’ total revenues amounted to € 7,345,503.79. EXPENSES: On 31.12.2022 UGS’ total expenses amounted to € 4,006,876.18. RESERVE: On 31.12.2022 UGS’ reserve for the fiscal year 2022 amounted to € 3,336,294.12.
