Mission & Interests

Goals: BEDA’s vision is for design to be embraced in Europe as a strategic driver of sustainable growth and prosperity. Representing over 50 members from more than 25 countries across Europe, BEDA maintains on-going dialogue with the EU Commission and other relevant institutions influencing where it can, policy creation and development in three key areas aligned with the EU's own policy agenda: Climate Change, Digitalisation and European Values. Members can be design promotion centres and other publicly funded organisations that promote design nationally or regionally, as well as professional and trade associations for designers, and design businesses from across Europe.

Communication Activities: BEDA Design Forum, May 2024: Discuss the creative sector’s current challenges and looked for solutions. SACCORD project 101132841, Erasmus + Looking Forward Project Co-leading the Pact for Skills for CCIs, BEDA works for collaborations between the different creative fields and the other sectors. Cross sector innovation is one of the LSP CCIs working group. BEDA Design Forum, June 2023: Discussed and identified which skills are required for the future design sector. BEDA Wide Open Door Dialogue, January 2024: A public event to learn which new perspectives of design members of BEDA are exploring and what might be the future of design professionals. The event raised a significant question: Are designers superheroes? This rhetorical question implies that designers play a crucial role in addressing current and future challenges related to sustainability and inclusivity. BEDA Design Forum, October 2022 BEDA Design Forum, May 2022: Discussing the position and ambitions of “Design in European Policies and beyond” with members and representatives of the European Commission. BEDA Design Forum, December 2021: A conversation and co-creation session for BEDA members to exchange with the European Commission, the Directorate-General Research and Innovation (GD RTD) and the NEB team. BEDA Design Forum, May 2021: Integrating policy fields of Industrial Strategy, New European Bauhaus and Cultural and Creative Industries EU Commission's New European Bauhaus Conference, April 2021: BEDA President panel speaker BEDA Design Forum, December 2020: Dialogue between BEDA Members (60 participants) and the NEB Team (specifically the European Commission’s Presidential Advisory Board I.D.E.A. & Policy Analyst, JRC’s Policy Lab). First partner of the New European Bauhaus Fortnightly BEDA Open Doors Dialogues, which are online meetings for BEDA Members and was initiated in March 2020 as a response to the Covid pandemic. Info Members: The BEDA Board consists of a minimum of 5 and up to 11 Board members comprising a President, a Vice-President and up to 9 other individuals. The Board select two of their number to each serve as Treasurer and Secretary. BEDA Board members are elected by and from the BEDA membership. They serve a two-year term and can stand for re-election for an additional two consecutive terms. Voting takes place at BEDA’s annual General Assembly.
