Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: SLOCAT Partnership follows the following EU initiatives and policies: i. Domestic and international climate policy (Ambition level, ETS, Effort Sharing, International negotiations etc.) ii. Transport policy (impacts on environment, road safety, aviation and maritime transport GHG emissions, Alternative fuels, RTD, urban mobility) iii. Energy policy (renewable energy) iv. Development policy (development assistance, relations with 3rd countries) v. Green Deal (economic recovery/stimulus), low carbon development) vi. Environment Policy (Air quality issues)
Communication Activities: Pragmatic policies and pathways Policy guidelines, advocacy narratives and multi-stakeholder dialogues about the regulatory and investment frameworks to enable Avoid-Shift-Improve Framework strategies with integrated, inter-modal and balanced approaches. Technical support, peer learning activities, advocacy actions and policy analyses to support robust and ambitious transport measures in the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Long-Term Strategies of the Paris Climate Agreement; as well as in the strategies and Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Technical support and capacity building activities for synergies across NDCs and VNRs Accelerated action, enhanced impact Enhanced regional engagement through context-relevant databases, policy guidelines & analyses, peer-learning activities, advocacy actions, and multi-stakeholder dialogues. Position papers and debate facilitation about investments and lending portfolios that represent the best value for money and give the greatest improvement in equitable access to mobility, jobs generation and reduced emissions. Shareable databases and analysis to broaden the momentous actions and debate on the end of the internal combustion engine New thinking for changing landscape Relationship building and strategic collaborations beyond the transport community, focusing on urban sustainability, renewable energies, health and behavioural change communities. Organisation Members: Action Towards Climate Friendly Transport (ACT) [https://slocat.net/act-initiative-2021/] ACT Initiative is the largest global coalition aiming to catalyse transport as an enabler of sustainable development in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement. Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action [https://unfccc.int/climate-action/marrakech-partnership-for-global-climate-action] Under the leadership of the High-Level Climate Champions, the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action (MPGCA) supports the implementation of the Paris Agreement by enabling collaboration between governments and the cities, regions, businesses and investors that must act on climate change. Serving as Co-Focal Point of the Transport Thematic Group jointly with the International Transport Forum, SLOCAT continued to establish the transport community as an essential and reliable partner in the MPGCA. SLOCAT’s mandate was renewed by appointment by transport sector peers in 2020. Sustainable Mobility for All [https://sum4all.org] Sustainable Mobility for All brings together a diverse and influential group of transport stakeholders, with a commitment to speak with one coherent voice and act collectively to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) and transform the transport sector. SLOCAT has been part of the Sustainable Mobility for All Consortium since its early stages and as member of the inaugural Steering Committee. Its Steering Committee Membership was recently extended to 2020-2022 period. Transport Decarbonisation Alliance [http://tda-mobility.org/] The Transport Decarbonisation Alliance – a ‘coalition of the willing’ to decarbonise transport. The TDA brings together countries, cities/regions and companies, the ‘3Cs’, as the major drivers in sustainable, low carbon mobility. Following re-appointment in 2019, SLOCAT continued providing secretariat services to the TDA.
