Mission & Interests

Goals: The aims of the European Museum Academy are to preserve the legacy of Kenneth Hudson and to disseminate the values and the pioneering intuitions and views of his museological thinking among the new generations of museum professionals as well as cultural professionals active on a European scale. The EMA Foundation is engaged in developing researches in the field of museum innovation, stimulating new ideas and experiences and offering its services as an incubator for new talents and new programmes in order to improve the quality of museum services and of the museological discourse at the European level. The academy intends to be a society of museum experts of different national and cultural backgrounds united for the advancement of museological knowledge based on a curriculum of proved capacity in carrying out innovative museum projects. Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: The European Museum Academy follows the initiatives on European level in the following areas: - cultural heritage - museums - art - education (especially related lifelong learning policies) - tourism - regional development
Communication Activities: The European Museum Academy annually arrange an Award Ceremony and Conference where we present the competitors and winners of the Luigi Micheletti Award, the DASA Award, the Art Museum Award, and the EMA Prize. The Academy also arrange seminars on various museological issues - so-called Kenneth Hudson Seminars. The Academy co-hosts or co-arrange master courses in Milan, Tiran, and Östersund. The Erasmus Mundus master programme EDUMaH (Education in Museums and Heritage is collaborated with universities in Glasgow, Tartu, Radboud and Valetta.

Info Members: The number of persons involved are volunteers and are not compensated for their time. Whenever EMA is contracted for consultancy work or are participating in funded projects the staff for such engagements are sub-contractred and receives normal salary. We are about 80 people in the EMA community as volunteers.
