Mission & Interests

The portal information about nearly 7,200 institutions, over 1,200 of which actively provide content. Users can search in more than 650,000 archival collections including more than 300 million items with and without digital representations. During the past decade, APE has established a growing network of regional, national, and thematic aggregators of archival content next to working with cultural heritage institutions directly, where the route via an aggregator might not exist yet. Originally funded under ICT-PSP, APEF is now running mainly on membership fees. It is part of the projects for deploying the common Europeana Data Space for Cultural Heritage (Digital Europe) and the Cultural Heritage Cloud (Horizon Europe).
