Goals: STEAG Group has been divided into a black coal division and a green growth division. STEAG GmbH holds all shares in STEAG Power GmbH and Iqony GmbH and acts as management holding company.
STEAG Power operates hard-coal-fired power plants in Germany and large power plants abroad. It’s still the strategy to phase out hard coal-fired power generation in the long term.
With 85 years of experience in planning, construction and operation of energy technology plants, Iqony offers holistic solutions for decarbonization, decentralization and digitalization of energy supply. Iqony focuses on renewable energies and bridging technologies that can also be used in a climate-neutral manner in future. In addition to solar, wind and geothermal energy, the portfolio also includes hydrogen solutions, storage technologies, engineering services and gas-fired power plants. The company implements projects worldwide for major industrial companies, utilities, cities and municipalities.

Complementary Information: Im Sommer 2023 gab die EU-Kommission bekannt, dass der „HydrOxy Hub Walsum“ zu den 41 industriellen Großprojekten aus ganz Europa gehört, die eingeladen wurden, mit der Vorbereitung der Finanzhilfevereinbarung des Innovationsfonds zu beginnen. Für die Errichtung der ersten Ausbaustufe der Wasserstofferzeugung investiert Iqony am traditionellen Kraftwerksstandort in Walsum einen mittleren dreistelligen Millionenbetrag; die nun geschlossene Vereinbarung über eine Förderung aus dem „Innovation Fund“ macht in etwa zehn Prozent der Gesamtinvestition aus.
