Mission & Interests

Goals: The research project STAPL - Data Governance und Standardisierung für Fahrzeugdaten-Plattformen (stapl-mfund.de) is funded by the German Ministry for Digital and Transport. Its focus is the generation, processing and harmonization of vehicle data extracted from public transport busses. The STAPL consortium inter alia includes two public transport operators (PTOs), which are leading in the use of carbon free methods of propulsion in Luxembourg and Germany, using battery or hydrogen powered busses. The project primarily uses “raw” data collected directly from busses (e.g. from the vehicles’ CAN-bus). The data acquired will be processed by artificial intelligence to gain insight to be used for example for the optimization of battery charging processes, pre-emptive maintenance or the education of vehicle drivers. The results from the project will both benefit the roll out of carbon free public transport in general as well as allow cost savings on the side of the PTOs. As a result, (...)

The Project interacts with associations such as VDV Verband Deutscher Verkehrsunternehmen and ITxPT Information Technology for Public Transport in the field of standardisation of vehicle data for commericially used vehicles such as buses.
