Mission & Interests

Goals: Callias Foundation is an independent think-and-do tank in Berlin. We are an international team of professionals creating intercultural innovation in the field of classical music as an instrument to improve the relationship between people for whom classical music is an important part of life. Our vision as a nonprofit organisation is to use the possibilities of the Silk Road Cultural Belt - a unique narrative for Europe - as a sounding board for classical music to develop new forms of interactivity with 'the other' in a global context including digital innovation to reach new audiences in Berlin and in countries along the Silk Road and beyond. Our mission as a Foundation is to inspire Responsible Listeners through a very diverse spectrum of sources of inspiration shared by music lovers from all over the world at the Silk Road Cultural Belt. Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: We see our role in bringing the necessary intensity into certain European ideas like the 'European Silk Road' (wiiw), 'The Silk Road Cultural Belt as a unique narrative for Europe in the context of the EU connectivity strategy and into EU legislative proposals like 'Creative Europe' and 'Music Moves Europe'.
Communication Activities: Callias Foundation was invited for a EU-level dialogue between the European Commission and representatives of the European Music sector. Jan Moritz Onken participated on behalf of Callias Foundation at the 1st EU connectivity Forum in Brussels in September 2009. Jan Moritz Onken participated on behalf of Callias Foundation in a consultation with the European creative sector of the CULT Committee of the European Parliament. In October 2020 Callias Foundation participated in a consultation with EEAS and DEVCO to identify areas of common interest in external cultural relations and how to develop an idea like The Silk Road Cultural Belt together. Callias Foundation is a European Ambassador for innovation at creativeSHIFT funded by the European Union.
