SO Europe Eurasia Foundation (SOEEF) is a not for profit organization that provides year-round public health services and activities to children and adults with intellectual disabilities through grass roots sports training and competition, multi-disciplinary health screening and intervention programs, promoting public health and early childhood development in all 27 European an Union Member States, serving over 450,000 participating athletes.

Info Members: At the core, Special Olympics is a sports organization that uses the power of sport as a catalyst for social change. As Nelson Mandela said, “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire, it has the power to unite people in a way that little else does… Sport can create hope, where once there was only despair… It laughs in the face of all types of discrimination.” Through sport, we challenge society. By highlighting how the needs of people with intellectual disabilities (ID) are not being met, we expose inequity and exclusion. By drawing attention to the gifts of people with ID, we break down misperceptions and tackle negative attitudes. Our focus therefore needs to be on both providing a high quality sports experience and engaging communities with that experience in ways that help change negative attitudes and create inclusion and gives equal access and opportunity to practice sport to all.
