Goals: Snam is Europe’s leading operator in natural gas transport, with a network of approximately 38,000 km in Italy and abroad. The company also deals with storage, of which it holds more than 17% of the European capacity, and regasification, with 13.5 bcm of gas per year. With its 80 years of experience, Snam guarantees security of supply and promotes the energy transition through investments in green gases (biomethane and hydrogen), energy efficiency and CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) technology. Snam aims to reduce direct greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2027, 40% by 2030, and 50% by 2032, reaching carbon neutrality (100%) by 2040. Snam is the world’s first company on which Moody’s has published its Net Zero Assessment,, an independent evaluation of the goals and implementation capabilities of companies' decarbonization programs; Moody's evaluation positively assessed the company's consistency and alignment with the Paris Agreement.

Main EU Legislative Proposals: Snam is interested in following all the EU initiatives related to renewable energy, energy efficiency, clean mobility, sustainable finance, the recast of the gas market design legislation, including the definition of an hydrogen market. Snam also follows all the EU initiatives that promotes the EU Green Deal and the energy and climate long-term transition with a vision towards 2030 - 2050, with a focus on energy security (supply and infrastructures). In particular: Hydrogen and decarbonized Gas Package; Regulation on methane emissions reduction in the energy sector; SoS Regulation; Regulation establishing a Union certification framework for carbon removals; Energy Performance of Buildings Directive; Renewable energy directive and delegated acts; TEN-E Regulation; Union list of projects of common interest and CEF funding; Energy efficiency directive; Energy taxation directive; EU Emissions Trading System; Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism; Deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure; CO2 emission performance standards for light and for heavy duty vehicles; FuelEU Maritime Regulation; Taxonomy Regulation and delegated acts; State Aid Regulation; Energy and Environmental Aid Guidelines; REPower EU Plan; REPowerEU chapters in recovery and resilience plans; Corporate sustainability reporting directive; Corporate Sustainable Due Diligence; Net-zero Industry Act; Critical Raw materials act; European Hydrogen Bank; Europe's 2040 Climate Target; Industrial Carbon Management Strategy.
