Mission & Interests

Goals: The “Research and Development Network for Southern Europe Sparsely Populated Areas” (RDENSESPA) is constituted on january 11th 2021 with the fundamental objective of promoting the creation of a European cooperation network of excellence for the transfer of research (R + D + i) strengthening the economic, social and territorial cohesion of the least favoured regions of southern Europe, in particular the rural areas with severe natural or demographic disadvantages, with a low population density, and island and mountain regions. To develop tools with detailed analyses, maps, territorial indicators and data sets that allow innovation and employment generation, and produce a positive, effective and lasting impact on the cohesion and territorial development policy.

Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: The "Research and Development Network for Southern Europe Sparsely Populated Areas" (RDENSESPA) isconstituted with the fundamental objective of developing the article 174 of the Treaty on the Functioningof the European Union (TFEU), aimed at reducing disparities between the levels of development of thevarious regions and the backwardness of the least favoured regions. Specifically, it will focus on rural areaswith severe natural or demographic disadvantages, with a low population density, and island and mountainregions from southern Europe. For this, RDENSESPA is aimed at developing academic and technical tools to strengthen European policyregarding the situation of disadvantaged areas (small islands, rural, mountainous and sparsely populatedareas) of Southern Europe, with special regard the European Territorial Cooperation (Interreg), EuropeanRegional Development Fund (ERDF), Cohesion Fund (CF) and Just Transition Fund (JTF) programs.
Communication Activities: They have not been carried out due to the recent constitution of the “Research and Development Network for Southern Europe Sparsely Populated Areas” (RDENSESPA).
