Complementary Information: This project was implemented from 1st September 2020 to 31st August 2022 by Reach Out Cameroon (grant holder), CARE Cameroun, and IVFCAM across 03 divisions (Fako, Meme and Ngo-ketunjia) and 10 sub-divisions (Muyuka, Tiko, Kumba (I, II & III), Mbonge, Konye, Ndop, Babessi and BaliKumbat) of the South West and North West regions of Cameroon with funding from the European Union.
The project overall objective was to contribute to the reduction of vulnerabilities and risks for susceptible groups and reinforce community resilience and response to violence against vulnerable populations living in English speaking regions of Cameroon. The vulnerable and susceptible groups targeted under the project included Gender-based violence survivors, persons with disabilities, persons living with HIV lost to follow up and the general population living in conflict-affected communities.
A total of 66,557 community inhabitants being 35,682 on GBV (7,326 boys, 8,910 men, 8,202 girls, and 11,244 women) and 30,875 on disability, HIV, and family planning (13,960 males 16,915 females) gained increased awareness through GBV sensitization and prevention messages and community support activities. There has been better documentation and reporting of GBV through a reinforced referral pathway. Meanwhile persons with disabilities (PWD) and HIV LTFU are now going for voluntary testing and experience a reduction in stigma. The project further opined that providing economic assistance and livelihood support to GBV survivors, PWDs and HIV LTFU will reduce their diverse vulnerabilities. At the end of the project 518 vulnerable persons (158 GBV survivors, 200 PWDs and 160 PLWHIV) were empowered with improved livelihood strengthening, protection and health referrals. All 518 beneficiaries were able to move out of extreme poverty (gaining incomes above 12,825 XAF per month) while 138 were able to raise their incomes above 35,000 francs CFA a month
