Mission & Interests

Goals: PWYP's global, five year strategy, Vision 2025, focusses on the following: A people-centered agenda for the extractive sector that will guide us towards a vision of a world where all people benefit from their natural resources, today and tomorrow. The global strategy for 2020 - 2025 represents a major milestone in the evolution of our movement, and the start of a new and exciting chapter which sees PWYP united globally across 49 countries to drive an ambitious advocacy agenda at multiple levels, with a core focus on empowering the people most impacted by the sector. To help us achieve our mission of building a global movement of civil society organisations making oil, gas and mineral governance open, accountable, sustainable, equitable and responsive to all people our Vision 2025 will be defined by 4 collective goals: a movement that is informed, influential, heard and connected.

Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: Review of the EU legislation mandating disclosure of payments to governments by extractive companies: The EU (and associated EEA countries) is together with Canada the global leader on extractive revenue transparency. Preserving and strengthening the hard-won EU legislation mandating the annual disclosure by all extractive companies of their payments to government on a project-by-project basis can be considered a strategic objective of global significance. The legislation has already dramatically increased the transparency of revenue flows in the extractive sector. Its effectiveness could be significantly improved by amending it to make company reports more accessible, by clarifying reporting obligations in key areas such as joint ventures and by making additional data accessible such as payments linked to the trading of oil, gas and minerals. EU initiatives to promote sustainable investments, sustainable corporate governance and sustainable supply chains: Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive. The EU Critical Raw Materials Act.
Communication Activities: Getting it right for people and the planet - The case for sustainability disclosures from oil, gas and mining companies in the EU’s new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive https://www.pwyp.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/PWYP-CSRD-Brief.pdf #DiscloseTheDeal is a global campaign for contract transparency in the oil, gas and mining industries. https://www.disclosethedeal.org/
