Mission & Interests
Goals: The aim of the PREPARE programme is to strengthen civil society and to promote multi-national exchange in rural development, with a main focus on the new EU member states, accession and neighbourhood countries of Central and Eastern Europe. PREPARE partners wish to promote dialogue, trust, confidence and co-operation between local actors, governments and all stakeholders of rural development, at all geographic levels. Their desire is to see rural communities empowered to participate in decision-making related to sustainable rural development.

Communication Activities: Year 2023 was quite silent as to communication activities. PREPARE was involved in the SHERPA Horizon project and informed its members at the General Assembly. In the new Horizon Europe projects Granular and Futural some dissemination activities were implemented according to project lead guidelines. The European Rural Parliament did not happen in 2023, but preparations are on-going for the next ERP-event. Newsletters on the website provide an insight in the main activities. PREPARE is part of the Rural Pact Coordination Group.
PREPARE became partner in three Horizon projects during 2022 and 2023 namely FUTURAL, GRANULAR and RURBANIVE. Planned activities did not however start before the end of 2023, where also a new Secretary General Miodrag Matavulj was hired. More people will be hired during 2024 to fulfill project activities and obligations. The overall funding is about 415 000€ divided to the years 2023-2026. Most of the activities start in 2024. Part of the Pre-payments were though done already in 2023. PREPARE is actively looking for other project opportunities.

Info Members: PREPARE has 20 organisations and two associates structure having 10 000 member organisations or affiliated local groups and over 100,000 individual members. Each member organisation has its own board, typically between 5 and 15 persons. All boards are dealing with European rural and regional development policy, which means that there are approximately 100 persons involved indirectly in the scope of the Transparency Register.
PREPARE was successful in Horizon Europe calls and hired in November 2023 a new Secretary general. He is payed and full-time employed. The others are on voluntary basis. In 2024 new people will be hired to implement The three Horizon projects PREPARE is involved in.
