Mission & Interests

Goals: Preferred by Nature (formerly known as NEPCon) is a non-profit organisation that supports better land management and business practices that benefit people, nature and the climate. We do this through a unique combination of sustainability services, projects supporting awareness raising, and capacity building. For more than 25 years, we have worked to develop practical solutions to drive positive impacts in production landscapes and supply chains in 100+ countries. We focus on land use, primarily through forest, agriculture and climate impact commodities, and related sectors such as tourism and conservation. Founded on our vision, mission and guiding principles, we have set out three strategic goals for 2020-2025: i) Reach and Impact: Promote sustainable practices in landscapes and supply chains; ii) Brand and Networks: Build brand recognition that multiplies sustainability impact; iii) Strengthen our organisation in all areas to achieve our mission. Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: We are interested in all initiatives which supports better land management and business practices that benefit people, nature and the climate. These include, but are not limited to: EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) Proposed EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive Proposed Regulation Prohibiting Products Made From Forced Labour on the EU Market Proposed Directive on Green Claims Proposed Directive on empowering consumers for the green transition EU Taxonomy EU Green Deal EU Biodiversity Strategy EU Forest Strategy
Communication Activities: Of all the above legislative measures, proposals and policies, Preferred by Nature has been most active in raising awareness in relation to the EU Deforestation Regulation. Since it was announced in November 2021, Preferred by Nature has closely followed its development. Leveraging our expertise in the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR), specifically in timber legality and sustainable sourcing, we've engaged in multiple communications activities to raise awareness about the upcoming Regulation (https://preferredbynature.org/newsroom). As a partner of the LIFE Legal Wood project, we have hosted 6 Regulation-focused seminars/webinars, complemented by guides and videos to help affected parties navigate the requirements. Additionally, we produced 5 informative articles under the LIFE Legal Wood project, addressing essential preparations for the Regulation (https://preferredbynature.org/sourcinghub/eutr-info). Globally, we organised over 10 seminars/webinars, fostering connections with local stakeholders and sharing valuable insights on the new Regulation. Through guides, info sheets and various communications materials, we simplified the Regulation's intricate details. Our social media initiatives, in particular our 20+ posts on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/preferredbynature/?hl=en) and 13 YouTube videos (https://www.youtube.com/c/preferredbynature) which cover insights to better navigate the Regulation’s requirements, further contributed to building awareness on the Regulation. For easy access to information, we developed a dedicated EU Deforestation Regulation webpage (https://preferredbynature.org/EUDR). This supports affected parties to better align their practices with the new Regulation.
