Goals: Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) is a non-governmental, multi-party, international network of legislators acting in their individual capacity, informs and mobilizes parliamentarians in all regions of the world to advocate for human rights and the Rule of Law, democracy, human security, inclusion, gender equality and justice, including climate justice. PGA’s vision is to contribute to the creation of a rules-based international order for a more equitable, safe, sustainable and democratic world.

Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: The work of PGA aligns perfectly with the policy objectives of the EIDHR. On the Rome Statute, PGA sensitizes and mobilizes legislators to ratify international instruments and implement their provisions at the domestic level. This aims at strengthening the Rule of Law and democracy as well as protecting human rights and raising awareness on the situations of human rights defenders and parliamentarians at risk. PGA has interactions with EU institutions, including the EEAS and COJUR ICC.

Is Member Of: PGA membership is open to individual legislators from democratically elected parliaments worldwide. At present, it consists of approximately 1,200 legislators in 141 multi-party parliaments around the globe. Member-parliamentarians are supported by a PGA National Group structure in parliaments, which creates sustainability and ownership of issues at the national level, and by a Secretariat with relevant expertise. PGA’s Executive Committee meets twice a year and consists of 15 MPs elected by the PGA International Council; the International Council itself meets annually and allows the National Groups’ representatives to report on progress and challenges faced in advancing PGA’s priorities. In accordance with the organization’s by-laws, the Executive Committee must maintain a 40:60 either gender ratio. Organisation Members: PGA is in general consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations with headquarters in New York. PGA’s office in The Hague, Netherlands fosters cooperation with The Hague-based International Organizations, including the International Criminal Court (ICC).
