Mission & Interests

Goals: Nature and Youth Sweden (Fältbiologerna) is the youth organisation of the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC, Naturskyddsföreningen) and Sweden's largest youth environmental organisation. The organisation aims to educate and guide young environmentalists and their impact work through fostering a love and understanding for biology and ecology upon which our policy suggestions and our activism are formed.

Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: Nature and Youth Sweden has recently begun to engage on a EU level leading up to the election with a specific focus currently on the CFP, but has been involved on a national level with member-focused activities, as well as press and media presence, regarding the Nature Restoration Law and the Waste directive.
Communication Activities: The organisation is currently involved in a national campaign focused on the Common Fisheries Policy and its Multiannual Plans (specifically for the North and Baltic Seas) and engaging candidates in the EU election, and potential members of the PECH, to strive for more environmentally friendly fisheries management. The organisation's "business plan" adopted on the 6th of January 2024 states that the organisation will - Adopt a campaign leading up to the EU Parliament elections with a focus on fishing and fisheries, - Push via our campaign platform that the EU sharpens protection for and raises the status of threatened species such as the European eel or the European sea bass, adopts and enforces a ban on bottom- or deep-sea trawling, moves the trawl boundaries further from the coasts and ceases its purchases of fishery rights in the Global South, - Participate in discussions with politicians, industry representatives, candidates to the EU Parliamentary election and representatives of marine research interests with the focus of pushing for sustainable and ecosystem-based fisheries management, - Present the results of our discussions and interviews of candidates to Parliament in a publically available evaluation or "Mapping" of candidates' opinions and policy suggestions within our questions - Publish and circulate educational material of the EU's role in fisheries management questions, - Undertake a social media campaign and a press campaign to lift the organisation's activities within the overarching campaign and use these platforms to communicate the organisation's own opinions in the questions.
