Mission & Interests

Goals: Metsä Group is a responsible forest industry group who produces high-quality products mostly from renewable Nordic wood and wood fibre. Our core businesses are tissue and cooking papers, board, pulp, wood products, wood supply and forest management services. Metsä Group also has innovation company. It works actively in research and development in order to develop new products and to diversify the use of our current products. The Group tries to find ways to use its wood raw material more efficiently. Metsä Group follows and takes interest in the development of regulatory frameworks affecting our operations and markets. We promote among others sustainable forest management and sustainable sourcing, resource-wise circular bioeconomy and the role of forest-based industries in achieving the objectives of the EU Green Deal. The group’s overall aim is to guarantee the global competitiveness of the European forest industry to maintain and increase industrial production in Europe.

Main EU Legislative Proposals: Main EU legislative proposals under the Green Deal and Circular economy action plan, and Regulation on Nature Restoration, Taxonomy Technical Screening Criteria for Restoration of Biodiversity and Ecosystems, PPWR, IED, ETS, Sustainable Carbon Cycles, Finland's Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan to 2030, Finnish Forest Strategy 2035. Following policies concerning climate change and energy, renewable energy, environment, transport, biodiversity, forest and wood availability, resource efficiency, bio-economy, circular economy, water, waste, packaging and recycling, product safety, food safety, innovations, wood products and construction, trade, corporate social responsibility, taxonomy.
