Complementary Information: Kindly note that our main office is in Malta and the Estimate of annual costs related to activities covered by the register is based on the most recent closed financial year which is 2021, since financial year 2022 is still being audited but should be closed within the next couple of weeks. Year 2021 was characterized by an extraordinary low operational activity due to the COVID Pandemic. Furthermore most of the register’s operations are subcontracted on a project by project basis to third party organizations. Indeed, in normal circumstances the Mediterranean Tourism Foundation (MTF) works closely with the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association in organizing the Mediterranean Tourism Forum - one of the main activities of the MTF but which was postponed in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, and with the latter’s subsidiary the Malta Business Bureau (MBB) which conducts activities related to EU and sustainability matters, which again were practically not performed due to the pandemic. Other projects were also practically all postponed to the following years due to the pandemic. As already explained, MTF works on the premise that as much as possible operational works are sub contracted to third party organizations on a project by project basis thus ensuring not only optimal expertise but also managing to turn what otherwise would be fixed costs into variable costs. This we believe is a very efficient business model to control costs for our non profit, non-governmental organisation while aiming at increasing the potential for sustainable tourism growth across the Mediterranean region.
