The findings from this study will feed into the mid-term evaluation of Horizon Europe and will inform the European Parliament and the Council about the achievement of the programme's objectives. MIO-ECSDE developed in 2023 under the WES Project “The Mediterranean Accession Agenda to the Aarhus Convention (MAAAC)” (https://bitly.ws/3fJT5). The MAAC is a guide for Mediterranean countries that are not Parties to the Aarhus Convention (Aarhus Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters) to do so. The MAAAC provides all the information needed for a country to prepare and eventually put in motion the mechanisms needed to accede to the Aarhus Convention. MIO-ECSDE also contributed to and co-signed the following: - Joint statement on the EU Nature Restoration Law: In March 2023, MIO-ECSDE together with 206 civil society organisations, called upon all EU Member States, Members of the European Parliament and the European Commission to urgently adopt a strong Nature Restoration Law that is fit for purpose to tackle the twin biodiversity and climate crises. In September 2023, the aforementioned statement was revised and was subsequently reissued by the signatory civil society organizations. - Civil society manifesto: nature-inclusive, people-centred renewables: With this Manifesto, 50 signatory civil society organisations, among them MIO-ECSDE, propose a comprehensive and forward-thinking approach to accelerate renewable energy development in harmony with our ecosystems and communities. The document was published in October 2023 and presents five key courses of actions that can ensure a successful acceleration of renewable energy and aims to urge decision-makers across Europe, and beyond, to commit to these priorities. MIO-ECSDE along with member organisations and other MAP Partners present, prepared a joint statement which was read to the Ministers and other participants, during the Ministerial segment of the 23rd Meeting (COP23) of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols took place in Portoroz (Slovenia) from 5-8 December. See here the statement: https://rb.gy/o1ox9j
