Mission & Interests

Goals: The non-profit purpose of the MCAA is to promote and exploit, in the broadest sense, the full potential of the community of researchers who have benefited in terms of mobility from the People programme of the “People” 7th Framework Programme of the European Community for research, technological development and demonstration activities (2007 to 2013) (Council Decision L 400/272 dated 30.12.2006, and its corrigendum L54/91 dated 22.02.2007), its successors (in the future) and its predecessors (from past Framework Programmes) and to foster greater public awareness of European research. Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: MCAA is committed to the following European Research Area Actions (ERA): ERA Actions 3 - Research Assessment, ERA Action 4 - Promote attractive research careers, ERA Action 9 - Promote a positive environment and level playing field for international cooperation based on reciprocity ERA Action 14 - Bring science closer to citizens, ERA Action 16 - Improve EU-wide access to excellence, ERA Action 17 - Enhance the strategic capacity of Europe’s public research performing organisation Enhance public research institutions' strategic capacity, ERA Action 19 - Establish an efficient and effective ERA monitoring mechanism Apart from that, MCAA is involved in advocacy on the following policy areas: - Framework Program: MCAA actively engages with EU institutions to advocate for robust funding and support for Horizon Europe, the EU's framework program for research and innovation. This includes advocating for streamlined application processes, increased funding opportunities for early-career researchers, and enhanced international collaboration. - Open Science: MCAA promotes open science principles within the EU institutions, advocating for policies that enhance transparency, accessibility, and reproducibility in scientific research. This involves supporting initiatives that promote open access to research publications and data, as well as encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing within the research community. - Researcher Career & Mobility: MCAA advocates for policies that facilitate researcher career & mobility across the EU and beyond. This includes addressing barriers to mobility, such as visa regulations, and supporting programs that enable international collaboration and exchange for researchers. - Gender Equality and Diversity: MCAA is committed to promoting gender equality and diversity in research. This involves advocating for policies that address gender imbalances in research funding, leadership positions, and decision-making processes. MCAA also supports initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion within the research community.
Communication Activities: The major communication activities take place in the Annual flagship event: the MCAA Annual Conference. The next event is scheduled in Milan between 14th and 16th March 2024. It will focus on the upcoming Framework program (FP10). Apart from that, MCAA has a regular quarterly newsletter, annual magazine, and podcast. In addition, MCAA frequently publishes policy statements. Complementary Information: In the current financial year, we have not received any grants yet. However, we believe the running grants (e.g. MCAA-New-Horizon) will have payments. In addition, the organisation is applying for new grants. If those are accepted, we hope to receive more grant.

Info Members: MCAA is governed by an elected Board of 11 members, 5 of whom serve on the Executive Committee, plus Chairs of each Chapter (32) and Working Group (11, but with some overlap with Board members), who are ex-oficio Board members. No Board members are renumerated for their work with MCAA, but rather work on a volunteer basis to carry out the activities of the Association. The operaitonal team of MCAA is supported by the Executive Director appointed by the board. Several service providers support the different activities including career development, policy, alumni engagement and other key areas of the association.
