Mission & Interests

Goals: The MEA seeks to promote: - A unity of purpose among all employers in Malta in a modern pro-business climate Optimum relations between employers and their employees, as well as between individual employers - A good working relationship between government and employers. MEA's Mission Statement - To stand for the members' rights in matters regarding the employment of the Human Resource; - To regulate and maintain the best possible relations between employers, employees and trade unions; - To influence national policy-making and legislation on terms and conditions of employment, industrial relations and social policy, while safeguarding the legitimate interests of employers; - To contribute actively to the sustained increase of the national wealth through the continued enhancement of employer / employee relations; - To promote the work ethic.

Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: MEA issues a number of position papers on various topical issues being discussed at EU level. In 2021, MEA issued: - Position Paper on Teleworking & Remote Working Arrangements – A Balanced and Informed Approach - Recommendations by the Malta Employers’ Association on the LONG TERM RENOVATION STRATEGY 2050 - Position Paper: Addressing a Chronic Shortage of Employees - MEA Proposals for National Budget 2022 - Memorandum to Political Parties – Economic Sustainability, Governance & Wellbeing - Report on the SMEs National Forum 2021: SMEs & Green Growth – The Journey Ahead MEA also organizes training sessions and conducts research on EU policies and legislation. In 2021, we have organised: - Webinar on Sustainable Transport and Business - Webinar: COVID-19 Vaccine and the Workplace - Webinar: White Paper on Cannabis Use - National Conference: Beyond GDP - Info Session: Emplyment of TCNs - Focus Group on Malta's Recovery & Resilience Plan - Conference on Green Economy: the Way Ahead MEA is also represented on various boards: - MCESD and MEUSAC, the Occupational Health and Safety Authority and Jobs+ - Director General Mr Joseph Farrugia represents MEA on the Employment Relations Board to discuss amendments/additions to the law - Senior Vice-President, Ms Dolores Sammut Bonnici is the legal representative in the BUSINESSMED - Legal Executive Dr Charlotte Camilleri is a Member of the Malta Employment Lawyers’ Association and Chairperson of the Maternity Fund in Malta - Research Executive Ms Sharon Farrugia is the Chairperson of the GetQualified Scheme within the Ministry for Education and an active member in CORE Platform on CSR developments in Malta MEA issues a monthly newsletter entitled the EU File, designed to keep it's members abreast of EU Developments with respect to Employment issues. It highlights important news from the European Commission as well as interesting news from different Member States.

Currently, MEA is participating in the following projects: 1. EBSOMED - Enhancing Business Support Organisations and Business Networks in the Southern Neighbourhood" with BUSINESSMED (Tunisia) 2. Bbrave - "Project on Bullying & Ostracism at the Workplace" with BBrave Foundation (Malta) 3. "GDPR awareness campaign and support to business organisations in particular SMEs" with IDPC (Malta) In 2022, MEA has also signed an MoU with: 1.
