Mission & Interests
Goals: The Long Distance Fleet Advisory Council (LDAC) is an EU fisheries stakeholder-led body recognised in the CFP Regulation (UE) No 1380/2013 as an organization aiming a European Interest. Its mission is to promote the role of the EU in the International Ocean Governance, foster conservation of marine biodiversity and the sustainable use of fishing resources in international non-EU waters.
It has a dedicated mandate to provide evidence based advice to the European Commission and to the EU Member States on matters pertaining to the External Dimension of the CFP, namely:
* EU Sustainable Partnership Fisheries Agreements with Third Countries (SFPAs)
* Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs) in which the EU is a contracting party
* Monitoring, Control and Surveillance and Fight against IUU fishing
* International Ocean and Fisheries Governance in the High Seas
The LDAC is currently composed by 54 member organisations from 11 EU coastal MS with distant water fleets.

The LDAC was an active partner of the EU H2020 funded project FARFISH, which was in action from June 2017 until November 2021). The LDAC acted as the voice of the EU stakeholders and providing technical expertise in Case Studies, training programmes and events for improving knowledge and management of EU fisheries outside Europe while contributing to the economic and social sustainability and long-term profitability of EU distant water fleet.
