Mission & Interests

Goals: Lipu pursues its institutional goals of protecting Italy’s natural heritage through managing specific project, creating, and managing nature reserves, and organizing awareness-raising and educational campaigns. Lipu ODV is a national environmental association recognized by the Ministry for Ecological, recognized as a non-profit organization by the President of the Republic (DPR n. 151 of 6/2/1985) and as a Volunteer Organization on the basis of Law n. 266 of 11 August 1991 n. 266 in the interim of the entry into force of Legislative Decree 117/2017 and by decree of the President of the Region of Emilia-Romagna of 2 February 1992 n. 855 which registers Lipu in the regional registry of volunteer organizations.

Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: Lipu work in this area focuses on the implementation of environmental legislation, specifically the Birds and Habitats Directive. This work also includes monitoring other EU initiatives, policies and legislative files including: - Prioritized Action Framework; - CAP reform including ecoschemes and rural development programme. Extensive work has been carried out on hunting sustainability and reduction of the impact of poaching. For legislation, we engage throughout the process including early preparations (Green and White papers), the Commission's preparatory work, the legislative process (for Directives and Regulations), and the final adoption of the texts by the legislative bodies. Our engagement is focused on EU public participation and providing an Italian perspective.
