Mission & Interests

Goals: Lie Detectors works to improve news literacy, increase awareness of misinformation and further the general public's understanding of the mainstream media industry. It promotes positive and non-political contact between young people and journalists. Its long-term position is that news literacy should become an integral part of teacher-training colleges across Europe, so that news literacy can become one of the basic literacies of children in Europe.

Activities

Communication Activities: Lie Detectors deploys journalists into schools in Europe to raise awareness of disinformation and professional journalism among children aged 10-15 and their teachers. It trains teachers, including as a Friend of eTwinning. It contributes to public debate via speaking engagements including at the OECD, Unesco, EU institutions as well as national and local levels. It chaired the civil society section of the High-Level Expert Group on Fake News and Disinformation and participated in the Media Literacy Expert Group. Opeds published by the OECD Forum, Euractiv, Le Soir and ATiT's Media and Learning, among others, and interviews and features about the organisation's work have been published and broadcast internationally.
