Mission & Interests
Goals: IT-Political Association of Denmark (IT-Pol) is a Danish digital rights organisation that works to promote privacy and freedom in the information society. We promote privacy for citizens and transparency and openness for government. Our work focuses on the interplay of technology, law and politics.
Information and communication technology can be used to give citizens more freedoms or subject them to more surveillance and social control, depending on the technology choices that are made by legislators, government and private companies. Currently, counter-terrorism initiatives by the government, commercial profiling on the internet, and the whole "big data" industry (public as well as private) are tilting the balance towards more surveillance, more data collection and less privacy for citizens. At the same time, the government is becoming less transparent and more secretive.

Complementary Information: The budget covers expenses for IT, meeting activities, campaign materials, and the membership fee of EDRi. Since IT-Pol is a volunteer organisation without an office (mainly operating virtually), there are no expenses for staff or office rent.
The limited budget is funded by a small membership fee (15€ annually) for the members of IT-Pol (only private individuals can be members). IT-Pol does not accept funding (donations) from companies.
In 2021, IT-Pol extraordinarily received a donation from another civil society organisation (Patientdataforeningen, also volunteer-based) which dissolved its operations and requested to donate the remaining funds (about €5,000) to IT-Pol. Normally, member's contribution will be the sole source of funding.
