Mission & Interests
Goals: ISEAL supports ambitious sustainability systems and their partners to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges. With our growing global network and our focus on credible practices, we drive impact and make markets a force for good. Our membership works across more than a hundred countries, in sectors from forestry and seafood to biomaterials and extractives. Independent research illustrates their impacts in production, supply chains and business practices. Our Codes of Good Practice support sustainability systems to improve how they operate and deliver greater impact. Our Credibility Principles help businesses and governments make informed choices about the systems they work with, pushing the schemes to further improve. We work by defining credible practice for sustainability systems based on emerging global consensus, convening forums for collaboration, sharing of experience and collective action, delivering expertise, advice and training, and facilitating and promoting.

Communication Activities: We seek one on one meetings with representatives from EU institutions such as the EU Commission. On due diligence and claims last year, ISEAL tracked policy developments at EU level during what has been a pivotal year for corporate sustainability regulation. Through a series of face-to-face meetings with senior civil servants at DG ENV, DG JUST, and virtual meetings with Special Rapporteurs and Country Representatives to the European Union, we supported EU policy makers to recognise the role and potential contribution of credible sustainability systems and practices.
During ISEAL's engagement with EU representatives over the last few years we have learned that they are interested in more engagement with ISEAL, both to learn more about how sustainability systems work, and to better understand credible practices. Our efforts to date aim to allow better understanding of ISEAL (including its Credibility Principles) and credible sustainability systems amongst recognized key actors and stakeholders in Brussels. This is an ongoing effort; in 2024, we will build on our 2023 positions and early engagements with EU policy makers and continue to support policy makers as they move from drafting regulation towards implementation.
