Mission & Interests
Goals: Established in 1983, IRI is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization committed to advancing democracy and freedom. We link people with their governments, guide politicians to be responsive to citizens, and motivate people to engage in the political process. For more than 30 years, we have been helping to strengthen democracy through workshops by volunteer experts from all over the world on multi-party political systems, democratic governance practices, women's empowerment, civil society development, youth leadership, strengthening electoral processes and public opinion research. Since 2015, IRI Europe has focused on building resilient democracies from foreign authoritarian influence IRI also conducts non-partisan trainings and events for political parties, youth, and civil society organizations dedicated to building more vibrant and stable democratic institutions in their home countries.

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: IRI Europe conducts research and other activities related to a wide range of EU initiatives and policies. Currently, these include: transatlantic leadership, transatlantic defense and security, democratic resilience, media freedom, transparent governance, digital security including fight against hate speech and disinformation and EU strategic communication to counteract foreign malign influence.
Communication Activities: IRI Europe activities fall into one of three categories: Coalition Building, Credible Research and Engaging Policymakers. IRI Europe activities focus on coordinated collaboration among civil society and policy makers from EU institutions, EU member states and beyond, such as exchange of best practices and development of unified response strategies. This is done through roundtables, conferences and briefings organized in conjunction with a range of European partners and officials, development of targeted strategies together with members of European parliament and workshops for members of our partner network. Besides in house research, media monitoring reports and opinion polls, IRI Europe provides financial support and capacity building for research projects. It also provides a platform for 155 partners from 34 countries to share research and best practices while encouraging collaboration. Since 2016, IRI Europe’s partners produced approximately 150 publications and policy papers which were with support of IRI provided to political actors, and state institutions at the national and EU level.
