Mission & Interests
Goals: The Investor Initiative for Responsible Care is an investor led initiative with the aim of improving working conditions and the quality of care in nursing homes. To date, 138 institutional investors with over $4.4 trillion combined assets under management or advice have signed up to the initiative.
The group have a shared statement of expectations for the sector including to see improvements in staffing levels, health and safety, wages and contracts, freedom of association and collective bargaining and quality of care. The group collectively engage with investee companies on these expectations and also want to engage with key policy making bodies on these topics, to work together to drive positive change in the care sector.
UNI Global Union and UNI Europa is the secretariat for the Investor Initiative for Responsible Care, supporting investor signatories to exchange knowledge on issues in the care sector and organising opportunities for investor-led action.

Any policies relating to the care sector or ones that would impact working conditions in the sector
Communication Activities: Members of the Investor Initiative for Responsible Care have previously engaged on the European Care Strategy. This included sending a letter to Commissioner Schmitt in June 2022 and taking part in a follow up meeting, for those registered individually with the Transparency Register. The group also sent letters to the permanent representatives of the EU Commission and the Czech Presidency following the publication of the European Care Strategy.
Looking forward, the initiative would like to engage on any relevant EU policies. This could include engagement via letters, meetings and feeding into consultations.
