Mission & Interests

Goals: To provide all bona fide students, regardless of their nationality, race, gender or religion, with the opportunity to prove their student status in every country worldwide, via an official and affordable identifier of student status. This unique identifier aims to allow students access to preferential travel opportunities, specially negotiated services, discounts and experiences in every area and stage of student life, consequently reducing the cost of being a student. As such, the ISIC Association aspires to play a supporting role in improving intercultural understanding and increasing educational opportunities for all. ISIC has been the recipient of an endorsement from UNESCO since 1968.

Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: The first International Student Identity Card was created in 1953 by a group of pioneering European students. Given this original base, the ISIC Association retains strong roots and a sizeable student cardholder base in most EU member states. Consequently, the ISIC Association is keen to stay abreast of any EU initiatives related to the possible standardisation of student identification credentials across member states. Our primary interest relates to student identity for secondary and tertiary educational institutions. This can take the form of either plastic cards (with or without embedded technology) or virtual student ID's (on smartphones, for example).
Communication Activities: If the EU is considering setting any criteria or standards for community-wide official student identity credentials, then the ISIC Association would be keen to participate in assisting and advising the relevant EU body in its work.
