Goals: The International Data Spaces (IDS) initiative aims at cross-sectoral data sovereignty and data interoperability. It sets forth a Reference Architecture Model basing on open standards and contributing to global standards. By specifying data usage constraints, it defines the terms and conditions for the data economy and by describing an open software architecture and publishing open source software codes it ensures maximum adoption.

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: Numerous contacts with European Institutions and representatives of common European data spaces concerning research and innovation policy especially in the context of "Horizon 2020", "Horizon Europe" and related policy areas, as well as concerning digital and data policy especially in the context of Digital Europe Programme (DIGITAL) and various regulations and programmes on data and sovereign data sharing in industry.
The following legislative frameworks for the implementation of the European strategy for data are of high interest:
European Data Act (DA), European Data Governance Act (DGA), Digital Service Act (DSA), Digital Market Act (DMA), Open Data Directive (ODD).
On a more operational level IDSA is playing a leading role in the Data Spaces Support Centre (DSSC), as part of the consortium of leading associations and knowledge centers in the domain of data spaces, with the goal to support the creation of data spaces and defining standards and interoperability requirements.
