Mission & Interests

Goals: The Institute for Climate Economics (I4CE) is a non-profit research organization that provides independent policy analysis on climate change mitigation and adaptation. It promotes climate policies that are effective, efficient and socially-fair. I4CE’s 40 experts engage with national and local governments, the European Union, international financial institutions, civil society organizations and the media. I4CE’s research work covers three key transitions – energy, agriculture, forest – and adresses six economic challenges: investment, public financing, development finance, financial regulation, carbon pricing and carbon certification. I4CE is a registered non-profit organisation, founded by the French National Promotional Bank Caisse des Dépôts and the French Development Agency. Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: EU climate change mitigation and climate change adaptation policies. Including : EU financial instruments for climate investments (e.g. Multiannual Financial Framework, Horizon Europe, Innovation Fund). European Green Deal Industrial Plan. Carbon certificates and carbon farming. Green budgeting for the EU, Member States and local authorities. European Investment Bank and European Investment Fund. European Banking Authority and bank’s climate transition plans. Energy Union Governance and National Energy-Climate Plans (NECPs). Climate change adaptation.

Communication Activities: Communication activities (events, campaigns, publications, etc.) related to the EU policies above: Evidence-based policy-relevant analysis and policy recommendations, published in reports, briefs and blogposts. Events and meetings with EU policy makers. Training of EU and national policy makers (e.g. European Commission’s DG ECFIN, national finance ministries). Providing expertise through EU institutions expert groups, and to EU Agencies (European Environment Agency). Briefing of journalists covering EU Climate policy debates.
