Mission & Interests
Goals: In Ovo is an agtech scale-up company based in Leiden, the Netherlands, that's creating innovations to improve animal welfare and resource efficiency in the global poultry industry. In Ovo is best known for its Ella machine, that is able to determine the sex of a chick in the egg, which allows hatcheries to only hatch female chicks. This prevents the need to hatch the male chicks, that are culled right after hatching as they are unable to lay eggs. Ella is currently in use at hatchery Het Anker in the Netherlands to supply chicks, that go on to produce cull-free eggs for the German market, where male chick culling is banned as of 2022. In Ovo will place more machines in multiple countries in the near future.
