Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: We lobby for reciprocal agreements between the UK and EU countries regarding visa for au pairs and have filed a petition with the EU Parliament recently to start negotiations for such reciprocal visa options for your people.
We lobby for opening borders for au pair applicants and that they are treated the same as other student or cultural exchange programmes.
We are watching the EU directive from May 2016 2016/801 as it directly affects the status of au pairs in all member countries and we welcome the initiative of allowing third-country citizens as au pairs also to countries that have not offered this so far. We would like to offer our expertise and advice as we also work closely together with national associations.
Communication Activities: We launched a petition with the EU Parliament to negotiate with the UK on establishing reciprocal visa options for young people to allow au pairs and other cultural exchange participants back into the UK.
"Request to commence EU/UK negotiations to establish a reciprocal youth mobility scheme to reinstate bilateral cultural exchange" (0827/2021)
Background: The UK closed all viable visa routes for au pairs and other cultural exchange programmes 01.January 2021.
The annual celebration of the International Au Pair Day on 24 November www.internationalaupairday.com
The petition was accepted and discussed before the EU Parliament´s Petition Committee on 15 June 2022. The petiton is now closed. However, the UK seems to be interested in reciprocal agreements as of lately(August 2023) and we hope the Eu will use this willingness of the UK to negotiate a sceeme for the EU Youth with the UK.
