Mission & Interests
Goals: An affiliate of the global animal protection organisation Humane Society International (HSI), Humane Society International/Europe is a leading force for animal protection, with tens of thousands of supporters across Europe. We are an effective voice for animals, with active programmes in wildlife protection, alternatives to animal experiments, international trade and farm animal welfare.
HSI/Europe was established as a legal entity in October 2014. Our work in the European Union had previously been coordinated from the HSI/UK office in London.
Humane Society International is the international arm of The Humane Society of the United States, one of the world's largest animal protection organisations. HSI is creating a better future for animals and people through advocacy, education, and hands-on programmes. Celebrating animals and confronting cruelty worldwide.

Complementary Information: Please note that the total budget includes the expenses for our Italian and German offices, which are primarily engaged in Member State rather than EU activities. A large proportion of these activities are not directly related to EU policymaking.
HSI/Europe has contractual relationships with the following public affairs consultancies, primarily relating to national political decision-making, rather than at an EU level. External consultancy costs for 2022 were: €52,027. Boldt AG was the primary recipient in 2022.
We are presently working with the following entities in various Member States:
- Central European Consulting (CEC) - Support of our political lobby activities in Poland, primarily directed at influencing national policy relating to animal protection
- Boldt - Strategic support & advice concerning REACH lobby at EU & German national level; support in Belgium for national Parliamentary lobby concerning trophy hunting
- Seebohm Berlin - Strategic support at a national level for farm animal campaign in Germany
- Levels - Strategic support for political campaigns at a national level in Romania
- Lumina Consult - lobby support on various campaigns at a national level in Italy
- Atrevia - lobby support on political campaigns, mainly at national level in Spain

Info Members: At present, HSI/Europe has one FTE paid employee working on 100% activities covered by the Transparency Register. 25% FTE of the work activities of two other paid employees related to engagement with the EU institutions.
Other staff members, such as subject experts and HSI/Europe country directors based in other EU Member States, will occasionally become involved in EU lobby activities, but not on a regular basis. Such meetings may be considered incidental.
