Mission & Interests
Goals: HIAS Greece opened in Lesvos in 2016 to provide free legal aid to refugees and asylum seekers at the height of the Syrian crisis. Over the last seven years, HIAS built an expert team of Greek lawyers, interpreters, caseworkers, psychologists, and administrative staff, becoming the leading legal aid provider on the island and representing hundreds of cases before Greek and European authorities. In 2017, HIAS opened an advocacy office in Athens, working closely with key policymakers, including Greek authorities and UN agencies. In 2022, HIAS began providing direct legal and MHPSS services in Athens as well.
