Goals: Hafslund Oslo Celsio is the largest supplier of district heating in Norway and supplied around 25% of the district heating generated in Norway in 2022. Celsio’s waste-to-energy plant at Klemetsrud, Oslo, is Norway’s largest with a capacity to end-treat around 350 000 tonnes of residual waste per year. The company is also expanding its activities to district cooling and fiber networks. The company employs approximately 215 people, and is owned by Hafslund (60%), Infranode (20%) and HitecVision (20%). As part of Longship, the Norwegian full-scale carbon capture, transport and storage project, Hafslund Oslo Celsio started in 2022 the construction of the world’s first full-scale CCS facility on waste-to-energy. The plant will be a state-of-the-art facility providing carbon negative end-treatment of residual waste, and a blueprint for European cities aiming to reduce emissions and solve their waste problems, while producing local heat and electricity for its citizens.
