Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: a) Before my retirement I worked - for the Belgian federation Fabrimetal, renamed Agoria. Agoria was a member of about 40 European federations (e.g. Orgalime, Acea, Clepa, etc.). Through these European Federations and their working groups I had quite a lot of contacts with EU institutions concerning REACH, CLP, RoHs, food contact materials, etc. - for the Belgian Federation of Plastic converters (Federplast, partly Agoria and partly Fechimie), They were members of EuPC, PlasticsEUrope and CEFIC. Through these European Federations and their working groups I had quite a lot of contacts with EU institutions concerning plastics, plastics recycling, plastics food contact materials,Reach related aspects of plastics, etc. - for the European association of fibre reinforced plastics/composites (GPRMC, later on renamed EuCIA). - as Secretary General of GPRMC (Groupement Européen des Plastiques Renforcées / Matériaux Composites) later renamed in EuCIA (European Compisites Industry Association) During this period I have participated . in European Commission and European Parliament meetings about food contact materials, drinking water, REACH, waste management . in meetings of European Associations like EuPC, PlasticsEurope, CEFIC, GlassFibreEurope - as Secretary General of GPRMC/ EuCIA (European Composites Industry association continued to participate in European Commission and European Parliament meetings - on behalf of Agoria in REACH, CLP, RoHS and nanomaterial meetings of ACEA, CLEPA, Orgalime, and other European Associations - participated in the start-up of MedPharmPlast (association of manufacturers of plastic medical devices within EuPC) b) After my retirement (end of 2014) I have continued working upon their request for more than 5 years for FEC (European Federation of the cutlery, flatware, holloware and cookware manufacturers) and participated in food contact related meetings of the Council of Europe/EDQM and the Cross Sector Group of almost all European Federations involved in food contact materials and articles. At this moment I am still working as a part-time advisor (food contact, REACH, SCIP, nanomaterials, endocrine disruptors) for interested European and national federations, and interested individual companies. As an independent consultant after my retirement, I am not a member of any association or federation. But I work for the European or national Federation, or companies that hire my services. Sometimes it may be for a short period of time (to deal with one specific issue) or for a long time. E.g., 1) I worked during about 5 to 6 years as an “independent food contact materials consultant” for the Federation of European manufacturers of Cookware and cutlery (FEC) to bring them in contact with DG SANTE of the European Commission, the European Parliament’s FCM activities, the CoE/EDQM as far as FCMs , REACH and CLP are concerned until they had set up their own food contact related structure. 2) I participated for a long time in the work of the “Cross Sector Group on Food Contact Materials” (grouping about 30 European Federations involved in FCMs)created to determine industry’s position on the revision of the EU food contact materials framework regulation.
Communication Activities: - I give training seesions concerning ALL categories of food contact materials and articles. - I help interested European and national federations, and companies to follow up the evolution of EU food contact materials legislation, and CoE/EDQM resolutions and guidelines concerning food contact material categories that are not regulated by the EU. - I also provide information and training related to national food contact material legislation in the most important EU Member States.

Complementary Information: The amounts mentioned are the amounts invoiced to my clients. As far as national instances are concerned I followed the work of BfR, ANSES, … and several European Associations also through the webinars they organized. I do not always fully charge al my working time to keep my knowledge up-to-date to my clients, most of the time only invoice them for the time I work for them.

Is Member Of: Since I am active in EU and national food contact materials legislation (in the most important EU Member States) I am following the work and activities of most of the about 30 European associations that are member of the Cross Sector Group and active infood contact materials. The names of these European Federations are well known to DG SANTE. I am still actively participating in meetings of certain specific sector group meetings of CEFIC, Eurometaux or other European associations on the classifiaction of certain hazardous materials with a special interest on the impact of such a classifiaction of these substances as food contact materials and articles.
Organisation Members: Until my retirement at the age of 65 I have worked more than 25 years for the Belgian federation Fabrimetal later on renamed Agoria ( Belgian Federation of the manufacturing industry, and the digital and telecom sectors), and Federplast, the Belgian association of Plastic Converters.
