Goals: GML Limited is a diversified financial holding company established in 1997. Its goal is to obtain justice for the unlawful expropriation of its investment in the former Yukos Oil Company.
GML was the majority shareholder of the former Yukos Oil Company. In 2014, an independent international Arbitral Tribunal in The Hague ruled unanimously that Yukos was illegally expropriated by the Russian Federation. The Tribunal awarded compensation of $50 billion to the former majority shareholders.
In February 2020, The Hague Court of Appeal confirmed the Arbitral Awards, quashing a 2016 ruling of the District Court. In November 2021, the Dutch Supreme Court ruled on the Russian Federation's cassation appeal by referring one question to the Amsterdam Court of Appeal for further consideration. These legal proceedings are expected to continue through 2022-23.
GML aims to ensure that the Arbitral Awards are upheld, and the Russian Federation complies with them.
