Mission & Interests

Goals: The Casimir Pulaski Foundation (CPF) is an independent, non-partisan think-tank specializing in foreign policy and international security. Its work is driven by values such as freedom and democracy, liberty and justice, objectivity, non-partisanship and impartiality, openness to dialogue, and transparency. The Pulaski Foundation is the main organizer of the Warsaw Security Forum (WSF), a leading European platform devoted to transatlantic cooperation and focused on elaborating shared responses to common security challenges. This annual conference convenes over 1500 participants from 60 countries, among others heads of state, ministers, leading personalities of international and non-governmental organizations, high-ranking representatives from the media, academia, and civil society. Each year, the CPF also presents the Knight of Freedom Award to an outstanding person who has promoted the values represented by General Casimir Pulaski: freedom, justice, and democracy.

Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: The Casimir Pulaski Foundation (CPF) strives to contribute to the debate on the role of the EU in the wider world. We particularly focus on transatlantic relations, EU-NATO relations as well as EU-Russia relations and the role of the EU in its neighbourhood, particularly in the East. Also, given the focus on defence industry and strategies, the CPF aims to contribute to the shaping of the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence policy and more particularly the Eastern Partnership and the work of the European Defence Agency. The CPF is also following the latest trends and emerging challenges and wants to help come up with common solutions to issues such as climate change, the increasing threats stemming from hybrid warfare, the decline of liberal democracy and multilateralism, trade wars and the rise of China. The main project of the Foundation, the Warsaw Security Forum provides a space to ponder and elaborate shared responses to these challenges and therefore contribute to the shaping of policies related to the above phenomena.
Communication Activities: The Pulaski Foundation provides analyses that describe and explain international developments, identify trends, and contain possible recommendations and solutions for decision makers. The Foundation concentrates its research on two subjects: transatlantic relations and Russia and Central and Eastern Europe. It focuses primarily on security, both in traditional and non-military dimensions, as well as political changes and economic trends that may have consequences for Poland and the European Union. The Casimir Pulaski Foundation has of over 60 experts from various fields. (https://pulaski.pl/en/experts/) It publishes the Pulaski Policy Papers, the Pulaski Report, and the Pulaski Commentaries. The Foundation experts cooperate with media on a regular basis. (https://pulaski.pl/en/publications/) The Pulaski Foundation is also the main organizer of the Warsaw Security Forum (WSF) which is an international conference bringing over 2000 participants from 60 countries, among others heads of state, ministers, leading personalities of international and non-governmental organizations, high-ranking representatives from business, the media, academia, and civil society. It provides a platform for discussions, exchange of ideas and debate on the most pressing policy issues that impact the security and prosperity in the wider transatlantic community. (https://warsawsecurityforum.org/about/) The Foundation also places a great emphasis on the role of women in the security debate and the wider world of policy making. The Pulaski Foundation is the founder of the Polish chapter of Women In International Security (WIIS) (https://wiispoland.eu/about-us/), the premier organization in the world dedicated to advancing the leadership and professional development of women in the field of international peace and security. Under the leadership of Prof. Katarzyna Pisarska, the Pulaski Foundation always strives to invite as many female speakers, participants and moderators to its events as possible. This year, the goal is to assure the presence of more female speakers (as of now 35% of participants and 25% of speakers are female). Likewise, the Foundation strives to include as many young voices to the debate as possible and is the organizer of many programs such as the Western Balkans Program (https://warsawsecurityforum.org/western-balkans-program/) that aimed to promote EU expansion to the Western Balkans, as well as to share Poland’s transformation and European integration experience with regional civil society opinion leaders under the age of 40. The New Security Leaders (NSL) Program (https://warsawsecurityforum.org/nsl-program/) is a leadership and mentoring program for mid-career, high potential leaders from foreign policy, defence, security, and political fields. Over the course of the program, NSL participants work with the Mentors – world leaders, global thinkers and experts – to discuss the most pressing global security challenges. One of the Warsaw Security Forum's goals will be also to decrease the average age of participants (below 35 years old), among other by inviting 100 young leaders (age 24-32) of the Academy of Young Diplomats program, who represent over 40 countries worldwide.
