Mission & Interests
Goals: The goal of Fruta Feia Co-op is to fight food waste due to appearance upstream the food chain (at the farmer’s level).
We buy from local farmers the fruits and vegetables discarded by big distributors due to aesthetic reasons (size, color and shape) and with these products we prepare boxes that are picked up by our associated consumers in delivery points spread all over the country. Nowdays (beginning of 2022), with our current 15 delivery points and working with 300 farmers to provide 7000 consumers, we are saving 22,5 ton of fruits and vegetables per week. Since our beginning in 2013 November, we have already saved more than 4000 tonnes of “ugly” fruits and vegetables from being wasted, valuing the water, the soil and the energy used to grow them, and creating an alternative market and a movement capable of changing consumption patterns.
