Goals: The Fridtjof Nansen Institute (FNI) is an independent foundation engaged in research on international environmental, energy and resource management politics and law. FNI collaborates extensively with other research institutions and individual researchers, in Norway and abroad. It strives to make its expertise available and relevant to users as well as to the public at large. FNI research is published in international scholarly journals and books. FNI's activities include academic studies, contract research, investigations and evaluations.

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: EU policies and legislation relating to climate, energy, environment and technology
Communication Activities: FNI heads and participates in various Projects focusing on EU policy development and implementation, both at the domestic and EU level. FNI also studies the relationship between the EU, European states, Norway, and organisations and industry in the areas of energy and environmental policy. Priority is given to understanding EU climate change policy, herein the greenhouse gas emissions trading system, renewable energy and energy efficiency policies. FNI's energy research furthermore focuses on European energy market regulations and responses by energy sector actor. This includes energy companies' environmental and social responsibility (CSR) strategies. Other key policy areas studies include transboundary pollution and marine issues.
Recent major publications include a series of academic books and articles on the making and implementing the EU climate and energy policies broadly and specifically the ETS system and the SET-Plan. EU energy market design and implications for the Internal Energy Market is focus of a recently started Project.
