Mission & Interests

Goals: FairSquare Projects is a non-profit human rights research and advocacy group. We produce original research designed to support people at risk of abuse, hold accountable those responsible, and identify how the abuse can be stopped. We work on three main issues: Accountability in sport: We want to see stronger governance, and stricter controls, to prevent sporting institutions and competitions contributing to harm and suffering. Political repression: We flag the risks posed by the use of soft power and institutional capture by repressive states, and we provide advocacy and other support to those confronting autocrats directly. The rights of migrant workers: We led the Five Corridors Project (fivecorridorsproject.org) and the Vital Signs Project (vitalsignsproject.org). We have a longstanding body of work on migrant workers in the Gulf.

Main EU Legislative Proposals: Our main focus areas for our current and future engagement with EU institutions are: - human rights and the EU's external relations, including with regard to authoritarian states and support for human rights defenders; - EU institutions and the governance of sporting bodies; and - the rights of migrant workers inside and outside the EU.
Communication Activities: We may publish research reports or hold events online or in person, with respect to the EU policies above.
