Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: Europetnet is a group of national and local associations based across Europe who register owner information about pets that have been uniquely identified with a transponder. Our job is to reunite lost pets with their owners and our services are available from anywhere at any time. EUROPETNET is lobbying to make identification and registration mandatory for all cats and dogs to efficiently fight against illegal trade of companion animals.
Communication Activities: Meetings with representatives to achieve a mandatory Identification and registration for all cats and dogs. The European regulation provides no satisfactory traceability for movements of pets. Regulation 998/2003 CEE, completed by 576/2013 for non-commercial movements of pets has been established only to ensure that animals are not infected by rabies. It provides no provision for traceability and no control for other diseases or parasites. Regulation 92/65 CEE applicable to all commercial movements of animals or animal products establishes an excellent traceability system known as TRACES.
